Week 2 - Kickboxing and coffee

The need to take up one and drop the other is the challenge. Often times, its the opposite that happens. But more on diet later.

I missed the bootcamps last week due to travel and I suspect that I will feel the pain tomorrow when I meet up with the group @ Jing'an.

The Sports performance test at SinoUnited  was very interesting and I recommend it to anyone intending to challenge themselves physically. Matt the Dutchman, a sports performance expert, who conducted the test for me really thinks about sports in a very scientific way and analyzes your body movements, posture and performance across various tests. The resting metabolic rate calculation tells you how much fuel your body burns up doing nothing. I tested mid-way on that test with a 1700 cals/day. This means that I will need to work a bit harder to burn more. This confirms what I feel around my abdomen.

Thankfully, I scored well on posture and movement hence I dont have too many excuses to suck at sports. A test which I did badly was endurance i.e. cardio and I have been neglecting that area over the past few months. Need to start running again.

I had a lot of fun yesterday at Eternity with the kickboxing session with Yves, the kickboxer with a sense humor, who is encouraging and very scary at the same time.

I think I'll be back for more punishment. All the childhood watching of Bruce Lee and Jacky Chan, and not to forget Jean Claude Van Damme will now be vindicated ;)

The area that I find myself truly finding it hard (apart from waking up and cycling 5 km to Jing'an stadium) is the diet. Being a truly blue desi (Indian) I enjoy eating 3 big meals, with a tendency to eat dinner late. This is destructive to say the least.

Changing over to the 5/6 small meals is pretty hard but should prove worthwhile.

Alrighty - Until I blog again. Live Strong.

Week 1 - The Beginning of the End

The Fit for Eternity challenge kicked off with all of us gathering for a Bootcamp with Mark, Jon and Steve on Tuesday, 16th June. Dory and the film crew made a video which I think will be very interesting to see 10 weeks down the line.

I think its called bootcamp because Jon puts his boot to your butt and "kick"starts your fitness program.

All of us are here for different reasons and different goals, but I suspect what unites us is the desire to try to be the best we can be. (My apologies to the US Army, it was a good line and I had to use it). All of us were back on Thursday for more punishment from Steve who smiles more than Jon, but is an equally strict taskmaster.

I'm keeping this post short because I must head to work now, but I have the fitness test at SinoUnited coming up today. Should be exciting. Will post later about that.
