Food Reviews
Monday, 02 November 2009 07:11 Written by Justin Fischer La Strada definitely has curb appeal. This small, unpretentious little pizzeria marked, at the moment, by nothing more than a blackboard seems to beckon you from the street. Walking in, you can’t help but feel you’ve found something secluded and special. And on most counts you’ll walk out reasonably satisfied. Menu items like their arugula and Parmesan salad (RMB46) are simple and good. I like his ‘no-frills’ approach. Likewise, tomato, mozzerella, prosciutto, artichokes, olives, mushroom, roast peppers and a thin crispy crust are a winning combination with the Quattro Stagione pizza (RMB88). A reasonable wine list (RMB160-450) doesn’t hurt either. But on our numerous visits since it’s opening, we’ve found La Strada to be uneven in the quality of its service — sometimes quick and attentive, other times completely slow and clueless. In a place this small that’s hard to excuse. Hopefully, it’s just symptomatic of the birth pangs all restaurants experience. Daily 11am-11pm. No cards. 1/F 195 Anfu Lu, by Wulumuqi Lu (5404 0100) 安福路195号1楼,近乌鲁木齐路
